Description:
Originally written in 1597, Dæmonologie is a philosophical dissertation on contemporary witchcraft and necromancy, black magic, and demonic possession, attributed to King James VI of Scotland (later James I of England). This edition, reprinted in 1924, includes editorial contributions from G. B. Harrison.
Also included is Newes from Scotland, a tract sometimes attributed to James Carmichael, minister of Haddington, which documents the North Berwick witch trials.
The work is notable for influencing early modern beliefs about witchcraft and providing context for James’s involvement in witch hunts.
